Meriton and Bankia continue without reaching an agreement between the parties over Valencia’s debt. Yesterday Mertion’s representatives returned to Singapore, awaiting a move from the bank. With the d-day of August 15th looming not so far away, one would think a bank would be more than eager to close a deal the club by itself would have no means of repaying. 15th of August is the day where Meriton’s exclusivity in negotiating with the bank expires.
Once the sale is completed, Peter Lim’s representative in Valencia will be Mr. Kim Huat Koh, the magnate’s right hand. Koh has already installed himself in the city and started learning Spanish. Koh was also the one who explained Meriton’s project to the Fundación ahead of the voting last week.
Rufete and his team are struggling to make an impact on this transfer market. After letting slip to the press names like Enzo Pérez, Jackson Martinez, Eder Balanta and Fabian Schär, many a fan got excited by the prospect of the team the club field the coming season. Until now, the only reinforcements brought by the ex-player is back-up goalkeeper Yoel and Rodrigo de Paul, while Meriton has placed Andre Gomes and Rodrigo.
What is making things difficult is of course mainly two factors; the sale to Peter Lim is still waiting to be closed (on which the transfer of Enzo Pérez seem to be directly linked to) and the already over-manned non-EU participation in the squad.
The hunt for the central defender(s) t replace Jeremy Mathieu has been on-going for a while already. Demichelis, Garay, Manolas, Schär, Balanta and now Mustafi have all appeared in the newspapers linked to the club. Salvo yesterday admitted that the club had a list of 5 or 6 players for every position they want to reinforce and that Balanta (which many of the fans were hoping for) is only number three or four. Yesterday, sources from Argentina also confirmed River has received a first formal offer from Turkish Galatasaray. The top target now seems to be Shkodran Mustafi and yesterday the club advanced in talks with his club Sampdoria. The German “weltmeister” could therefore be the one to bolster the Los Che defence and even be a decent backup option on the right side. Mustafi is said to be “very enthusiastic” over the new project at the club and have demonstrated strong interest in making the move.
The key to further strengthening the team is first liberating space both in the squad and the non-EU spots. Valencia is thus working hard on selling/getting rid of several of the players that are not in Nuno’s plans. Helder Postiga, Jonas and Ever Banega tops the list of players they need to move out. Rumours circulated yesterday that Deportivo were after both Javi Fuego and Jonas, but the latter’s agent have denied any contact beeing made over the Brazilian striker. Banega is wanted by Sevilla (as is Barragán), and the Argentine could be tempted to play for the manager that got the best out of him so far. Valencia are not so worried about the transfer of the Portuguese striker, as Postiga is expected to be placed (in Braga?) by Jorge Mendes.
Levante-emv reports today that Rodrigo de Paul has succeeded in getting his Italian passport, something that opens up a non-EU spot as well as ensures the youngster’s place in the squad which was seen as unsure due to his nationality status.
Elsewhere in the midfield Nuno want to have at least 5 options in the centre of the park. Andre Gomes and Parejo are certain to be two of them and if nothing special happens Fuego is expected to be the third. With his effort on Sunday, Andres Guardado also made a shout for a place thereabouts. The Mexican proved during the world cup that he could be a surprise option as a mobile and pass strong midfielder. The plan is still to sign both Enzo Pérez and Bruno Zuculini. The young Argentine has made several impressive displays for Manchester City in pre-season, but Frank Lampard’s arrival from New York seems to push him towards the expected loan any ways. He also holds an Italian passport. A decision is expected to be made the coming Wednesday when the player’s agents will sit down with City management.
The slightly older Argie, Pérez, is wanted by his current club at the Portuguese super cup the coming Sunday, but Valencia and Meriton is not happy with the idea. It is expected that Jorge Mendes will manage the buy worth 25 million euros. Pérez agent is today, according to Portuguese paper Record, meeting with Benfica management to discuss his future.
An alternative could be Inter’s Zdravko Kuzmanovic, linked yesterday by transfer-rumour king DiMarzio. The SkySport Italia journalist already claimed both Rodrigo Taddei and Esteban Cambiasso were set for the club earlier this summer. Reading tweets from Inter fans wanting to raise a statue of their sporting director if he succeeds in selling the Swiss-born Serb, one would be forgiven for hoping the rumour is the same quality as the two others.
Valencia yesterday confirmed that the season ticket sale had surpassed the number sold the previous year with 30 days remaining of the second sale phase.
The club has been receiving complaints that the new Adidas shirts are only available in Valencia itself. Even in Barcelona there was no shirts available in the Adidas stores in spite of the deal being characterized as “premium” and at the same level as clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern München and Chelsea.
The club also yesterday released the prices and timing for this year’s Trofeo Naranja http://www.valenciacf.com/ver/36695/a-la-venta-las-localidades-del-partido-trofeo-naranja-estrella-damm.html August 17th 21:00
